Penn State football comes home from Los Angeles with a 33-30 Big Ten win over USC. A big reason they could win was that of Andy Kotelnicki, the big-time hire James Franklin made this offseason. Kotelnicki dialed it up and Drew Allar delivered when it mattered most. Following the game, the Nittany Lion QB explained the emotions that Kotelnicki brings to the offense.

Tyler Warren lines up at center, Drew Allar is split out at wide receiver, and Vega Ioane is coming in motion these are just a few examples of the unconventional formations that Andy Kotelnicki has brought to Happy Valley. Following the USC win on Saturday, Allar explained what Kotelnicki means to the offense.

“We’re fearless out there with Coach K, and that’s why we’ve had so much growth on offense this year,” Allar said. “Coach K is fearless, and he’s gonna call those (unconventional) plays no matter the situation, close game, down a couple of scores, up a couple of scores. We want to be applying pressure to the defense. And I think that’s just an example of how we do it. Really the whole second half I think we let it loose.”

Say what you want about Drew Allar. But in 2023 he doesn’t complete the comeback that he did yesterday. Play calling was a massive part of the outcome but some throws he had to make. Allar wasn’t going to lose that game on Saturday and it’s just the growth and maturity of the junior gunslinger.

If Penn State football can get that version of him at home against Ohio State in a few weeks, this team has the chance to contend for a Big Ten Championship.
