Today, reports emerged that four-star SG Blue Cain, a highly touted 2023 shooting guard prospect, is visiting the Penn State basketball program and meeting with head coach Mike Rhoades. This visit could be a significant development for the 2023 Penn State basketball recruiting class as the Nittany Lions look to rebuild following the departure of former head coach Micah Shrewsberry, who left the Nittany Lions after their historic Round of 32 NCAA tournament run last March.

Major four-star SG Blue Cain on a recruiting visit with Penn State basketball today

Sources have reported that Penn State basketball recruiting is currently hosting Blue Cain, a four-star shooting guard who is ranked in the top 75 of the 2023 class, on a recruiting visit today. With Mike Rhoades at the helm, the program has already managed to attract several highly-ranked transfers and top-tier talent to State College. The addition of Cain could help the team build on this momentum and potentially give the Nittany Lions a strong start in the 2023 class.

According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Cain currently plays for IMG Academy (FL) and is ranked as the No. 74 recruit in the nation, the No. 11 shooting guard in his class, and the No. 8 recruit in the state of Florida. It’s worth noting that Penn State has already made a significant splash in the recruiting world by securing a few transfer portal commitments from highly touted players such as UNC transfer Puff Johnson, who is the highest-rated recruit ever to play for the program. Cain is a major prospect with a lot of national interest, so today’s visit will be essential for Penn State hoops.

2023 Penn State basketball recruiting class needs some help

After Micah Shrewsberry departed from the program following the Nittany Lions’ 2022-23 campaign, his outstanding recruiting class either went with him or found a new home elsewhere. Now, Mike Rhoades must rely on the transfer portal and his recruiting skills to rebuild what was previously one of the most outstanding classes in Penn State basketball recruiting history. As of 247 Sports’ latest update, Penn State has no high school commits, but the Nittany Lions have secured four transfer portal additions.

The Penn State Nittany Lions’ rebuild is still ongoing, but there are several positive early signs that the Mike Rhoades era in State College will be successful, at least when it comes to the recruiting trail.
