The Penn State basketball team continues to look ahead and evaluate the future of the program. Many would argue that first-year head coach Mike Rhoades exceeded expectations during the 2023-2024 season. But this fan base is starving for a consistently good basketball team. Now, looking ahead to next season the roster will look a little different as Bragi Guðmundsson and Favour Aire have officially entered the transfer portal in search of new opportunities next season.
Multiple Penn State basketball players enter the transfer portal
Kanye Clary was an expected departure from the Penn State basketball team after he was dismissed from the team earlier this season. The news was made official that Clary would be entering the transfer portal on Monday. But two surprise names popped up in the transfer portal freshman guard Bragi Guðmundsson and sophomore forward Favour Aire. Both players spent just one season in Happy Valley before deciding to look for a new home heading into next season.
Bragi Guðmundsson was a 6-foot-5 guard for the Nittany Lions this past season. A native of Grindavik, Iceland, Guðmundsson played professional basketball in Iceland, where he averaged 10 points per game before committing to Penn State. In his lone season with the Nittany Lions, he appeared in seven games and averaged 0.9 points per game.
He has two brothers who played Division 1 basketball in their careers. Jon Axel, who played for Davidson, and Ingvi, who played at Saint Louis. These could be two potential landing spots for Guðmundsson.
Former Miami transfer returns to the transfer portal
While it seemed that the role of Favour Aire would be large during the 2023 season it sadly never came to fruition. Aire, who is originally from Ekpoma, Nigeria, originally committed and played at Miami during the 2022 season. He then chose to follow Mike Rhoades to Penn State where he spent this past season. During the 2023 season, he appeared in 12 games and scored a total of seven points. Now, Aire will return to the transfer portal searching for a new home.
