It will be a busy summer for the Penn State football team. Dozens of prospects in the 2025 recruiting class have locked in official visits with the Nittany Lions. That trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon as it seems that a new official visit is posted daily on social media by a new prospect. Now, Jayden Woods an edge rusher in the 2025 cycle has confirmed an official visit to Happy Valley. Could his father’s connection to James Franklin be the reason why Woods might choose Penn State?

Jayden Woods is a 6-3, 228-pound edge rusher from Shawnee, Kansas. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Woods is a four-star prospect. On3 currently lists Woods as the No. 5 player in Kansas in the 2025 recruiting class. Additionally, he ranks as a top 25 edge rusher nationally.

Jayden’s father Justin Woods played football for Kansas State from 2007-08. Which overlapped with James Franklin and his time with the Wildcats. Franklin served as the offensive coordinator at Kansas State from 2006-07. This pre-existing relationship has helped drive the recruitment of his son Jayden.

Now, Jayden Woods has locked in an official visit with the Penn State football team from June 7th through June 9th. Penn State offered Woods on December 10th, 2023, and hosted him for an unofficial visit just last month (March 12th). He also will take an official visit to Wisconsin on May 31st and Purdue on June 14th.

Son of Penn State legacy takes next step in recruiting journey

While Jayden Woods will take an official visit in June, many Penn State fans are curious when Michael Carroll will do the same. Carroll just announced his top 12 schools on Monday. He has an official visit locked in with Rutgers at the end of May. He will also take an official visit to Michigan in late June.

Carroll will return to Happy Valley for his official visit in mid-June, and James Franklin will need to make a final push for one of the best offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class. Carroll holds a four-star ranking and is recognized as the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania in the 2025 cycle. His father’s tie to Penn State could be what aids the Nittany Lions in securing this future star.
