The past week of Penn State hoops new has been a wild one. After Micah Shrewsberry left, the program seemingly crumbled; however, just over a week later, it seems that there is hope for Penn State basketball yet. On Friday afternoon, it was reported that the A-10 Player of the Year will likely transfer to PSU, following his former VCU head coach Mike Rhoades, who officially took over in State College on Wednesday — get used to the name Ace Baldwin, Penn State fans.

Reports indicate that former A-10 Player of the Year Ace Baldwin will transfer to Penn State basketball

Ace Baldwin was a standout player for the VCU Rams over the past few seasons, his best of which being the 2022-23 season. During his most recent performance with VCU, the eventual A-10 Player of the Year led VCU to an A-10 title and NCAA tournament berth, all while earning the conference’s player of the year honors.

Now, after former head coach Mike Rhoades left for Penn State basketball, it is being reported that Baldwin is likely to follow his head coach to State College. Seeing as the Nittany Lions are a little (VERY) short on talent at the moment, this is massive news for Penn State fans.

Not only is Ace Baldwin an incredible player from a production standpoint — averaging 12.7 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, and 5.8 assists per game — but he also fits Mike Rhoades’ defense-heavy scheme. On top of being named the A-10 Player of the Year a season ago, Ace Baldwin also earned the A-10’s Defensive Player of the Year honors.

In addition to recent reports that Penn State basketball will land Baldwin, 247 Sports places two crystal balls for him to transfer to State College — if this all plays out well for PSU, he could be the first domino to fall in a series of massive portal commitments for Nittany Lion hoops as the program looks to begin a lighting fast rebuild in 2023-24.
