Penn State football is likely missing out on a major target, but in his place may be Tyler Cherry, a four-star 2024 QB.

It appears that Michael Van Buren has made the decision to move his commitment day from early July to this weekend, strongly suggesting that he intends to choose Oregon. If this assumption holds true, it will necessitate Penn State football recruiting to identify a new top quarterback prospect for the 2024 class. Fortunately, there may be an excellent candidate in four-star quarterback Tyler Cherry, who could potentially be a perfect fit for the program.

A new face is emerging for Penn State football recruiting: Tyler Cherry

Tyler Cherry has emerged as one of the latest prospects to receive an offer from Penn State football recruiting, and he has certainly grabbed my attention. The Nittany Lions currently boast a highly skilled and imposing quarterback in Drew Allar.

Interestingly, Cherry shares some similarities with Allar, as he stands tall at 6-foot-5 and showcases significant talent on the field. Hailing from Indiana, Cherry holds a four-star rating by On3 and has the potential to be an excellent addition to Penn State’s recruiting class.

Who is four-star quarterback Tyler Cherry?

Tyler Cherry, a highly sought-after high school football player, recently received an offer to play for Penn State. The Big Ten programs, including Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue, as well as Pitt, have recognized his potential and are actively pursuing him.

One of Cherry’s most remarkable qualities is his imposing physical presence, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 210 pounds. As he enters his senior year of high school, his already impressive size, coupled with the possibility of further growth and added weight, augurs well for his future prospects. Moreover, Cherry’s talent is widely acknowledged, as he is regarded as a four-star quarterback prospect by On3. He currently holds an impressive national recruit ranking of 226, is ranked as the 13th quarterback in his class, and is the third overall recruit in Indiana.

Like Drew Allar, Cherry standouts out as a pocket passer and has incredible arm talent despite only having one year of high school starting experience under his belt thus far; this has been noted by a number of top recruiting experts.

Hailing from Greenwood, Indiana, Cherry seems to have the Indiana Hoosiers as the leading contenders for his recruitment. Although he has visited five Big Ten campuses, he has yet to visit Penn State’s home in State College, Pennsylvania. To gain an edge in their pursuit of this promising quarterback prospect for the 2024 class, the Penn State coaching staff will likely prioritize arranging a visit over the summer.

Despite the Hoosiers appearing to have a lead built up right now, if Penn State football can put its best foot forward and heavily pursue the young four-star QB target, the Nittany Lions likely have a great shot at landing his commitment all said and done.
