“The best in PA stay in PA” is the Penn State football coaches’ slogan during recruiting. While attempting to secure members of the 2025 recruiting class, the Nittany Lions have been hit and miss with that initiative. But things can change quickly if they keep four-star tight end Andrew Olesh in the state. On Thursday, he announced his plans to take his official visit to Penn State this weekend on Twitter / X.

Andrew Olesh attends Southern Lehigh High School in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. A high school wide receiver who projects to play tight end in college. With his size, standing at 6-5 215 pounds, Olesh has the frame to grow into a dynamic tight end at the next level. He certainly has all of the traits of a prolific receiver. He finished the 2023 season with 53 catches for 972 yards and 10 touchdown receptions.

Olesh ranks as the No. 3 prospect in PA and the No. 5 tight end in the country according to the On3 Industry Rankings. While he will begin his official visit on Friday in Happy Valley, On3 believes that the Nittany Lions are the team to beat. According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine Penn State has a 45% chance of landing the four-star talent.

He has taken official visits to Alabama and Florida so far. Then, following his Penn State official visit, he will set his sights on Michigan to complete his slate of visits.

Where do the Nittany Lions stand with the top prospects in PA?

While the 2025 recruiting class has been interesting, to say the least, Penn State football fans have seen this trend over the past few years. In 2020 and 2021, recruiting took a dip, but with the 2022 recruiting class, Penn State got back on track.

Looking at the 2025 recruiting class, if the Nittany Lions can land Andrew Olesh that would swing in state momentum its way. They’ve missed on the top prospects such as Matt Zollers (No. 1 player in PA), Zahir Mathis (No. 2 player in PA), and most recently Penn State legacy target Michael Carroll (No. 4 player in PA).

However, on the flip side, Penn State has commitments from Andrew Tatsch (No. 5 player in PA) and they are trending for Andrew Olesh (No. 3 player in PA) and Lex Cyrus (No. 7 player in PA.) While recruiting will become more clear in July when many decisions are made, the Nittany Lions are still in a position to have a solid cycle.
