As the years go on more Penn State football quarterbacks come and go. But one thing that remains a constant is the pressure that each of the Nittany Lions QBs faces once they are named the starter. For Drew Allar he dealt with that pressure and adversity last season and that will continue this fall. But former Penn State QB Zack Mills can see how much Allar cares about the game.

Drew Allar is one of the most criticized quarterbacks in college football. That is due to how he performed on the biggest stages last season. Against Ohio State, Michigan, and Ole Miss the then-sophomore QB struggled to make plays consistently. But as others have perhaps written Allar off, he has a Penn State football letterman in his corner.

Recently, Zack Mills who was the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions from 2001-2004 discussed his thoughts on Drew Allar in an interview with PennLive.

“You can see the passion. He’s not one to show a ton of emotion. But you can see how much it means to him… And I think it will only make him stronger and better.”

Allar has shown his passion in his postgame press conferences. Bringing tears to his eyes are different points last season. At the end of the day, the last thing someone can say about Allar is that he lacks passion.

Following the Blue-White Game, this past April where the Penn State football offense struggled a viral video surfaced on Twitter / X. Travis May who is the Managing Editor at A to Z Sports made a highlight reel of the majority of the throws that Drew Allar missed.

When it rains it pours and so many people on social media also joined in to mock Allar. But something many of those people didn’t know was the conditions in State College on that day in April. The strong wind gusts made wearing a ballcap difficult enough, let alone throwing a football.

Drew Allar sits as the scapegoat in college football currently. But as he enters his junior year, he has a majority opportunity to silence all doubters if he can step up his performance in big games this fall.
