Tyler Warren may have moved on to the Indianapolis Colts, but the standout tight end is still earning recognition for his accomplishments with the Penn State football program. On Tuesday, Warren was named the university’s male recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor for the 2024-25 athletic and academic year.
Warren joins softball’s Maddie Gordon as the Nittany Lions’ two award recipients for this past year. The Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from each school in the conference who have demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their college careers. The highest honor that a student-athlete competing in the Big Ten can receive, the award was first presented in 1915.
Warren left Happy Valley as the most accomplished tight end in Penn State football history. He leads the program in career total touchdowns (25), receiving touchdowns (19), receptions (153), receiving yards (1,839) and 100-yard games (5) at the position. Warren won the John Mackey Award and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting following a record-setting 2024, becoming the first Nittany Lion with 100-plus receptions in a single season.
Selected 14th overall by the Colts in April’s NFL Draft, Warren holds degrees in public relations and telecommunications with a cumulative 3.36 GPA.
“So proud of this guy and not surprised, class act,” James Franklin said in response on social media Tuesday.
Gordon leaves the diamond as one of the most successful players in Nittany Lions softball history, finishing her career ranked fourth on the program’s all-time home runs list (28). She helped to lead Penn State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 13 years in 2024 and spearheaded the highest-scoring offense in school history this spring.
A double-major with a 3.93 GPA, Gordon was an active member of the local Special Olympics program, the university’s Athlete Advisory Committee, the Athletic Department Leadership Institute, and Penn State Christian Athletes.
