Abdul Carter is set on becoming the first pick in next month’s NFL Draft. But scouts will have to wait several more weeks for the opportunity to see the star edge rusher in action. Carter will not be among the Nittany Lions participating when Penn State football hosts its Pro Day on Friday.

“He is still finishing up rehab on the shoulder injury he had from the Boise State game,” Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Adam Schefter on Thursday. “He may still do a workout for teams sometime in mid-April.”

Carter left the Nittany Lions’ Fiesta Bowl matchup with Boise State in the first half with a shoulder injury. He did return to the field when Penn State faced Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl one week later.

After undergoing surgery, Carter did not participate in workouts at the NFL Combine in February. Further medical testing at the Combine revealed that Carter also had a stress fracture in his right foot, which ultimately did not require surgery.

Despite his injuries, the former Penn State football star defender has little doubt about where he should be drafted.

“Don’t let all this QB need talk fool y’all, Carter wrote on X on Monday. “It’s already known who’s the best, and no QB is in that discussion. Like I said, the best player goes number 1.”

The 2025 NFL Draft will begin on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
