During the 2023 Big Ten Media Days head coach of the Penn State football team James Franklin discussed how the starting quarterback position would be a battle between sophomore Drew Allar and redshirt freshman Beau Pribula. Now, after speaking with the media tonight James Franklin is still not ready to commit to either Allar or Pribula.
James Franklin ‘not ready’ to announce a starting QB at Penn State
The Penn State community will have to continue to wait to see who the starting quarterback will be this fall as Coach Franklin was not prepared to commit to either of the second-year players. Sophomore Drew Allar and redshirt freshman Beau Pribula will continue to battle each other for the starting job. Many assumed the former five-star recruit would takeover after Sean Clifford but James Franklin wanted to see the job be earned in fall camp, which is still the case.
Replacing the longtime starter Sean Clifford will be no easy task, but Allar was able to shine during his appearances last season. Meanwhile, Pribula showed off his athleticism in the Blue-White game earlier this year but has yet to take his first career game snap at Penn State.
Recently Allar spoke about the competition with Pribula and it’s fair to say that they rely on each other after each rep. Although this is a competition the two are willing to work together and try to make each other better.
Expectations are extremely high for Drew Allar
There’s a lot riding on the shoulders of the 19-year-old of Drew Allar, but that comes with the territory as he was the No. 1 rated quarterback prospect in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247sports. Experts say that Penn State has one of the best rosters in recent memory going into the 2023 college football season but it will be up to Allar to first win the starting job and help take this team to that next level by either winning the Big Ten Championship and/or making the College Football Playoff.
